Eggiwil is a «sedate» Emmental village with typical inns. The wide rolling Emmental landscape forms a natural arena for various hikes through in deep gorges such as the Räbloch or to vantage points such as the Chuderhüsi.

Eggiwil in the upper Emmental is a representative scattered pre-Alpine settlement at the upper catchment area of the River Emme. Eggiwil maintains an extensive, over-80-km network of hiking trails leading to the most beautiful vantage points in the area.

Particularly popular is the high-level hike between Eggiwil and Langnau over Blappach (meringues!) and Hohwacht with wonderful views of the Bernese Alps, Hohgant and Schrattenfluh, and as far as Pilatus and Napf. The Chuderhüs is another local vantage point, its 42m-high observation tower giving uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic vews.

Also spectacular is the Räbloch on the way to Schangnau, where the Emme forces its way through a very narrow gorge. Sections of the Räbloch gorge can only be negotiated by swimming or in a canoe. Eggiwil has an very attractive 18-hole minigolf course with a children’s playground and petting zoo (goats, deer). The picturesque town is characterised by typical Emmental inns such as the Bären, Löwen and Hirschen.

The small Netschbühl skilift operates in winter when Eggiwil snow conditions allow. The popular skiing area in neighbouring Marbach in Canton Lucerne is also close. Eggiwil is on one of the roads to Schallenberg, a pass road providing a link to Steffisburg/Thun/Bernese Oberland and particularly favoured by bikers – motorized or not.
