Tradition-conscious, open-minded and full of contrasts, Basel is regarded as one of Switzerland's centres for art, music and architecture. Thanks to its central location at the 'three-countries-corner' where Switzerland, Germany and France meet, the city on the elbow of the Rhine is also an important centre of fairs and congresses. The large market square with its richly decorated red sandstone town hall and the late Romanesque-Gothic cathedral are the landmarks of the city.

The hamlet of Lucelle belongs to the municipality of Pleigne and lies a few kilometres from Delémont in the Lucelle Valley. The abbey was of importance to the region until its influence came to an abrupt end during the French Revolution.

Courgenay (488m) is an industrial village in the Ajoie Region, situated on the plain to the south of the Allaine at the northern foot of the Jura Mountains. The area’s attractions include lush vegetation and floral diversity.

The small medieval town of St. Ursanne lies in the heart of the Jura Mountains on the banks of the River Doubs. Highlights of this picturesque town are the monastery with cloister and Romanesque-Gothic church, dating from the 12th century.

Saignelégier is the capital of the Franches Montagnes region in Canton Jura. The town is famous for its Marché-Concours, the national festival of the native horse breed held in August. A natural area of great beauty is the nearby marsh conservation area of Étang de la Gruère.

St. Imier in the Bernese Jura, nestled between Mont Soleil to the north and the Chasseral mountain to the south, is an interesting fusion of traditional watchmaking and modern energy technology.

La Chaux-de-Fonds, with its chessboard form townscape, almost unique in Switzerland, counts worldwide as the cradle of watchmaking and as Switzerland’s art nouveau stronghold. The Jura landscape extends an invitation to hikers and bikers and in winter to cross-country skiers.

Couvet in the Val de Travers is the site of a former asphalt mine that offers interesting guided tours through an underground labyrinth of passages and galleries. The village also has several historic buildings of interest.

Fleurier lies at an altitude of 771m at the far west of the Val de Travers. The region is characterised by the watchmaking industry, offset by rugged and beautiful scenery such as the Poëta Raisse Gorge.

Sainte-Croix / Les Rasses lies on a protected sunny terrace (1100m) in the middle of the width of the Jura landscape in the Lake Geneva region. The township is world-renowned for its music boxes and nickelodeons. Rambling and cycling in the natural surroundings of the Jura meadows prevail in the summer. In winter, the region is a much-loved cross-country skiing paradise.

Iron ore deposits and large supplies of firewood made Vallorbe an industrial site from very early on. The location on the French border also awarded the town in the Vaud Jura strategic importance and made it a traffic hub.

Le Pont lies at the northern end of Lac de Joux and also close to tiny Lac Brenet. The Vallée de Joux with its long tradition of watchmaking is a world of its own nestling in austere, untouched nature between two Jura chains.

A park-like landscape with colourful flower meadows and extensive woodland areas as well as splendid views of Lac Léman und and the Savoyan Alps: the impressive Col du Marchairuz.

Despite repeated crises, watchmaking is the characteristic industry in Le Sentier in the austere, near-to-nature Vallée de Joux near the French border. A museum gives visitors an insight into watchmaking tradition.

The little town of Nyon is situated on Lake Geneva, half way between Geneva and Lausanne, amid the vineyards of La Côte. Many excavations and sights from the times of the Celtic Helvetians and the Romans, and from the Middle Ages, bear witness to its eventful history. Nowadays the town is the starting place for many excursions into the area around Lake Geneva.
