Iron ore deposits and large supplies of firewood made Vallorbe an industrial site from very early on. The location on the French border also awarded the town in the Vaud Jura strategic importance and made it a traffic hub.
Le Pont lies at the northern end of Lac de Joux and also close to tiny Lac Brenet. The Vallée de Joux with its long tradition of watchmaking is a world of its own nestling in austere, untouched nature between two Jura chains.
A park-like landscape with colourful flower meadows and extensive woodland areas as well as splendid views of Lac Léman und and the Savoyan Alps: the impressive Col du Marchairuz.
Despite repeated crises, watchmaking is the characteristic industry in Le Sentier in the austere, near-to-nature Vallée de Joux near the French border. A museum gives visitors an insight into watchmaking tradition.
The little town of Nyon is situated on Lake Geneva, half way between Geneva and Lausanne, amid the vineyards of La Côte. Many excavations and sights from the times of the Celtic Helvetians and the Romans, and from the Middle Ages, bear witness to its eventful history. Nowadays the town is the starting place for many excursions into the area around Lake Geneva.
