Rhone Route
Section 2 Oberwald–Brig

Goms, the broad valley of the young Rhone, here called the Rotten. Insect-rich flower meadows and a tangy resin aroma are your constant companions through the sunny high valley, before bikes are pushed up through a steep gorge to Brig.

Rhone Route
Section 3 Brig–Sierre

The main valley in the Valais widens, sun warms the dry mountain slopes. Between Leuk and Sierre an unruly part of the Rhone, and the Pfynwald, a nature reserve on a huge mound of glacier detritus; a motorway will be built here by 2014.

From 23.03.2009 until 29.05.2009 the cycling route is rerouted over Visp (main road) between Baltschieder and Lalden. Please note the local signposts. Thank you for your understanding.

Rhone Route
Section 4 Sierre–Martigny

The cantonal capital of Sion shows its historic castles, churches and mansions. The lower Rhonetal is dominated by the high-alpine scenery of the Dents du Midi. A world of fertile fruit orchards and vineyards.

Section 5 Martigny–Montreux

From the heights, a round tower guards Martigny on its bend in the Rhone. At the valley’s narrowest point, St-Maurice guards golden church treasures. High mountains and lowlands, Lac Léman hidden behind reeds and defiant Schloss Chillon on the water.

Section 7 Morges–Genève

Above the terraced La Côte vineyards, below on the lake the market towns of Morges, Rolle, Nyon. Open shore becomes rarer, villas and yachts larger, soon cosmopolitan Geneva greets us with boulevards and its 140m-high water fountain «Jet d'eau».
