Toggenburg more forested and rugged, a land of nooks and crannies where water once provided work and death. Below the alluvial Linth plain, «Ziegerland» with mighty limestone cliffs, Glarus once a textile region of international importance.

Useful but unpredictable water from richly forested Tösstal. Culturally and industrially confident Winterthur, a city without airs and graces. Whether with a gentle murmur or a roar, the turbines of the «silver birds» announce the arrival of Zurich.

Recovery in the Chatzensee and Büsisee reed meadows, through Furttal to the Limmat, bathing in Baden, gothic stained-glass windows in Königsfelden, yellow irises in Aare water meadows, a grey cement factory as a contrast to the easy ride over Aare dam.
